Collinsville’s Parker Knight- Athlete Spotlight

Collinsville High School senior Parker Knight has built her softball career on consistency, teamwork and a simple approach to the game. As a varsity second baseman, Knight plays a key role in both the infield defense and the team’s overall chemistry, embracing the fast-paced demands of her position while staying grounded in the relationships that make the sport meaningful.

Knight, who will be a senior this year, said her biggest inspiration comes from her Tulsa Elite teammates. Their work ethic and ability to balance effort with enjoyment have shaped her perspective on competition.

“My Tulsa Elite teammates inspire me the most because of how much work they put in,” Knight said. “We can always have fun while working hard, and that’s what sticks out to me the most.”

That mindset carries over to her high school team, where she values the friendships built through shared experiences. For Knight, success is not just measured in wins, but in the bonds formed along the way.

“I enjoy being part of a team because of the friendships that come with it,” she said. “We push each other to improve every day.”

Knight plays second base, a position that demands quick reactions and strong decision-making. She said the most difficult aspect of her role is handling pressure situations in real time.

“The hardest part of playing second base is reacting quickly and making the right play under pressure,” Knight said.

Despite those challenges, Knight keeps her approach at the plate straightforward.

“My process at the plate is just to keep it simple and don’t think,” she said.

That simplicity reflects her overall philosophy of the game, which includes one important unwritten rule.

“The best unwritten rule in softball is to always have your teammates’ backs and never give up on a play,” Knight said.

Off the field, Knight enjoys spending time with friends, often playing sand volleyball in her free time. She also takes pride in her academic life, citing math as her favorite subject and naming Mrs. Brackett as her favorite teacher.

Within the Collinsville program, Knight is surrounded by teammates who bring different strengths to the team dynamic. She pointed to Mollie Cavanaugh as the most vocal leader, while Emma Helm keeps the dugout loose with her sense of humor. Meanwhile, catcher Ashtyn Gilkey earns a different distinction.

“Our catcher, Ashtyn Gilkey, has the dirtiest uniform after every game,” Knight said with a smile.

Through her years in softball, Knight has developed lessons that extend beyond the field. She credits athletics with teaching her perseverance and resilience.

“It has taught me that nothing comes easy, and how to work through adversity,” she said.

As she enters her senior season, Knight remains focused on contributing to her team while enjoying every moment of the experience. For her, the combination of hard work, strong relationships and a love for the game defines what it means to be a Collinsville softball player.

“What I love most about my teammates is how we are always having a good time and just enjoy being around each other,” Knight said.

With that mindset, Knight continues to be a steady presence for Collinsville, embodying the balance of competitiveness and camaraderie that defines high school athletics.
