Collinsville’s Carter Vaughan – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Heartland Site Services

Collinsville High School quarterback Carter Vaughan is spending his summer doing more than just tossing passes. The Cardinals signal-caller is helping shape a young roster, recovering from injury and sharpening his own game as the program prepares for a new season.

Summer workouts have set an early tone for what Vaughan believes this team can become. “It’s going great! Everyone is working hard and getting better every day. We are young but have a lot a talent,” he said, noting the energy and buy-in he has seen across the roster. That youth has not shaken his confidence in what Collinsville can be this fall. “I think we are going to be a tough team who competes and brings it every week! We’ve got guys who have been putting in a lot of work this offseason, but we are focused at taking it one week at a time.”

Vaughan will lead the offense from under center, and he is clear about where his focus lies as he heads toward the season. “Quarterback and working to improve on mobility and dissecting defenses,” he said of his position and priorities. His approach to leadership is direct and demanding, rooted in accountability and consistency. “We’re either all in or not at all. Every day we are either getting better or getting worse. We have to stay focused and locked in every day and do the little things right.”

That standard extends to what he believes this Collinsville team is capable of achieving. “I believe we are capable of competing with every team on our schedule but it’s going to take everyone being 100 percent bought in every day and consistency,” Vaughan said. Even as he pushes teammates, he has had to manage his own challenge after a recent setback. “Recovering from my recent knee injury and getting back to 100 percent,” he said of his top priority away from football this summer.

Vaughan is also quick to highlight others in the program. When asked which teammate could surprise people this season, he pointed to “Max Whitekiller and Beau Danials.” Long term, he wants his impact at Collinsville to be measured in more than wins. “I want to be remembered as a hardworking, selfless teammate who always gave everything he had for Collinsville. I want people to remember my character, my leadership, and the way I represented my school, my teammates, and my faith,” he said. After graduation, he hopes to “go play college football and major in biblical studies and minor in theology,” carrying his values and work ethic with him to the next level.
