Collinsville’s Ashtyn Gilkey
When Ashtyn Gilkey of Collinsville High School steps onto the mat, she is aware of the tradition and history of the program. She’s also aware that she is helping shape the tradition and make history for the girl’s wrestling program.
Her teammates and brothers have played a significant role in her development and success on the mat.
“I love that they all support me and what I do, it’s like having a lot of brothers and sisters,” said Gilkey. “My brothers inspire me a lot. They are the main reason I started my wrestling career.”
From receiving post-season honors to making an elite team, Gilkey has embraced all of the challenges that come with one of the top wrestlers in the state.
“My favorite moment is when I won all state last year,” said Gilkey. “When I got invited to wrestle on team Oklahoma was the biggest surprise.”
A three-sport athlete, Gilkey also plays softball and competes in track. She’s also a member of Student Council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Gilkey said she does have her favorites in the classroom.
“My favorite subject in school is math. My favorite teacher is Miss Crutchfield, she was my 8th grade math teacher,” Gilkey said.
As for the current season, Gilkey is likely to wrestle at 170-pounds. She is excited to travel to the tournaments and spend time with her teammates.

“I feel like I’m well rounded in my abilities but I’m working on being more efficient and consistent. Hunter Linzy is probably my most vocal teammate and Parker Barbee is the teammate that keeps everyone laughing. I’m looking forward to traveling and spending time with my teammates,” Gilkey said.
Away from the mat, Gilkey said she enjoys hanging out with friends and family.
