Q&A with Collinsville Track Star Kate Reid – Presented by 3Natives Acai & Juicery

VYPE: Kate, what age did you start competing in track?

Kate Reid: I started track when I was around 12 years old.

VYPE: What events are you competing in as a senior?

KR: I compete in the long jump, high jump, the 4×200 relay, and the 4×100 relay.

VYPE: What is the strength of your skill set and what have you improved this season?
KR: My skill set is my speed and my jumping ability. I improved on my technique and strength in both.

VYPE: How do you spend your down time during track meets?
KR: I spend my down time at a track meet by hanging with my family who show up to support me.

VYPE: What’s your biggest challenge as a student-athlete?
KR: My biggest challenge is trying to manage school and sports.

VYPE: What does the support you receive mean to you?
KR: It means a lot to me because just them being there and supporting me makes a difference.

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare to compete?
KR: I mentally prepare by listening to music on the way up to calm my mind, I go over my steps in my head, and right before my events I take a deep breath and say a quick prayer.

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
KR: What I love most about my teammates is that we all believe in each other and want everyone to succeed.

VYPE: What are your plans after you graduate?
KR: My plan is to attend UCO on a rowing scholarship and earn a bachelor’s degree.

VYPE: Who inspires you?
KR: My mom inspires me. She is my biggest cheerleader all the time. During my ups and downs she is always by my side cheering me on.

VYPE: What accomplishments are you most proud of?
KR: I have two accomplishments I am proud of. First, I am proud of making finals at state in my first year of long jumping, last year. Second, I PR’d last week at Coweta and I’m very proud of that.
