Now in his junior season at Collinsville High School, forward Walton Cavanagh is making the most of every opportunity both on and off the court. The basketball standout continues to work hard in the gym and in the classroom. Being a student-athlete at CHS allows Cavanagh to compete and represent his school and community.
“I love the competitive nature at Collinsville. Everyone strives to be the best version of themselves,” said Cavanagh. “I love my friendships with my teammates and the standards we hold each other to.”
The team is off to a tremendous start winning their first six games and breaking the 100-point mark twice. Cavanagh said the team is all-in.
“The team is coming together great! We all get along and have bought in to bettering each other every chance we get. Our team motto is “together” and is how we strive to play every game,” said Cavanagh. “One of the goals for myself and the team this season is to continue getting one percent better each practice and game.”
Cavanagh is a member of National Honor Society and a natural at math.
“My favorite subject in school is math and my favorite teacher is Mrs. Herald,” said Cavanagh. “If the opportunity to play basketball presents itself, I would love to play after I graduate, but if not, I would love to pursue Interventional Radiology at the University of Oklahoma.”
Away from the court, Cavanagh said he enjoys spending time with friends and family. Which usually ends up with a basketball on a court somewhere.
