Collinsville junior Nick Thompson is an offensive and defensive lineman for the Cardinals football team, and he wrestles in the winter. For Thompson, both sports have their positives, but for him, wrestling is tops.
“I play left tackle and defensive end in football. And throw shot put and discus in track. My favorite sport I do is wrestling,” Thompson said.
Last season Thompson placed third at regionals and qualified for the state tournament as a sophomore. It’s an accomplishment he is proud of doing. Wrestling and football has taught him lessons he will use throughout his life.
“My sport has taught me to keep showing up even when you don’t want to,” Thompson said.
The junior finds inspiration in his family and the classroom.
“My dad inspires me because he has always been who I look up to, to be a better person in the world. And has always been a great model to me,” said Thompson. “My teacher from and grade would be Mrs. Caudill from 4th grade. Because she was such a great supporter and teacher for me.”
Thompson said his parents have always been there to support him in his efforts on and off the field.
“I’d like to thank you to my parents for always supporting me. And to all the seniors my sophomore year that made the sport so much fun,” Thompson said.
